Workshops
I am an experienced workshop facilitator, running workshops in community settings, for everyone from older adults, to schools and families. Below is a selection of recent sessions and some of the art and writing workshops I deliver.
I specialise in workshops bringing people together to explore art and creative writing. I have run bespoke workshops, suitable for complete beginners and in different community settings and learning environments including:
Cyanotype printing - on location at events, using local found botanical materials. I regularly run community and family sessions for Swarthmore Education and local arts & heritage organisations.
Bookbinding (japanese stab) - make your own notebooks or sketchbooks from scratch using traditional japanese stab binding techniques to bring different paper stocks together and stitches for beautiful books for any purpose. Suitable for ages 12+.
Film Photography - taking group and self-portraits using a self-shutter release. Using photograghy to explore making live portraits and what it means to be 'inside and outside the frame'. Previous workshops have explored, family albums, and motherhood, with Creative Mothers Project Leeds, Yorkshire Sculpture Park and as part of Leeds Fearnville Fest.
Creative Writing - exploring poetry and creative writing with both family groups and parents, exploring themes and 'how to begin' when starting to write. Workshop can be tailored to explore specific themes. Recent writing workshops have been tailored to support theatre shows and for a community bereavment support group.
Artist Host, Moon Palace
I am currently an Artist Host for Moon Palace, a new social sculpture and working observatory by Heather Peak and Ivan Morrison.
I have been working with the team behind Moon Palace since 2023. Moon Palace was orginally commissioned by East Leeds Project and Smeaton 300 as part of Leeds 2023.
I have had the pleasure of working on board Moon Palace as an artist host, welcoming on board the public at day time and after dark sessions, everywhere from Leeds City Centre, to Primary and Secondary schools and Universities. Instigating conversations, awe and wonder, inspired by Moon Palace and what it means to 'observe', everything from day to day life, human behaviour, to the vast solar system we are part of. This role is about helping visitors feel welcome, bringing the artwork to life, sitting, gentle conversation, taking time and letting our imaginations wander. It's always amazing where we end up.
